Duotherm Warm Roofs

The Equus SOPREMA Duotherm Warm Roof System provides the longest available expected lifetime based on proven durability of the waterproofing in NZ climate conditions.

It’s a light-weight, thermally insulated roofing system which consists of the DuO two-layer membrane system applied over a rigid thermal PIR or SOPRAROCK mineral wool insulation board and vapour barrier. This guarantees a continuous and efficient thermal resistance (R-value) as per the New Zealand Building Code.

Duotherm is designed for use on exposed architectural flat roofs, podium decks, balconies, and terraces. It offers a durable, superior, thermal waterproofing system with an optimal return on investment due to its extended lifetime compared to standard waterproofing membranes available in the NZ market.

Duotherm Warm Roofs use the DuO High Tech membrane which uses a unique combination of hard, stable, UV-resistant TPO-modified bitumen with highly adhesive and flexible SBS-modified bitumen within one membrane.

DuO High Tech membranes are finished with mechanically pressed coloured natural slates to provide an aesthetically pleasing finish. DuO membranes are well-known and liked for their minimal slates loss during their serviceable lifetime.

The Duotherm warm roof system is suitable for both new builds and roof refurbishments.

It can be installed over the existing roof finish if the substrate is structurally sound.

The Duotherm warm roof system has been assessed and complies with the New Zealand Building Code. The DuO High Tech Membrane and the Duotherm warm roof system both hold a current BRANZ appraisal.

The Duotherm system uses a range of base and cap sheets so the optimal installation method can be chosen based on project specific design requirements. Equus and SOPREMA advice on the best combination depending on substrate, weather conditions, use of the area, expected wind load pressure, system thickness, fire-retardance … The membrane installation options include fully torched, no flame glue adhered, mechanically fastened and self-adhered options.

This Duotherm system can be used on different substrates such as plywood, concrete, corrugated metal, SOPRAROCK mineral wool or PIR thermal insulation substrates.

The Duotherm system is also available in a root-retardant version for green roof applications.
Equus Industries offers a warranty period of up to 25 years on all Duo and Duotherm membrane systems.

Why Use Duotherm?

* Superior quality membrane with over 40 years proven performance worldwide.

* Minimal slates loss: the special high-tech, slate chip surface offers an extended UV resistance and a tidy, aesthetic finish.

* Excellent durability with a life expectancy of at least 35 years in all New Zealand climates. Optimal for building owners that look for a long return-on-investment period.

* Easy maintenance.

* Insurance backed SOPREMA warranty when installed in accordance with the product specification and by a Certified Applicator.

* Each Duotherm project specification receives a project specific Condensation Risk Analysis (CRA) and Wind Uplift Report following NZS1170.2 Wind Action to ensure and proof the warm roof system performance.

* Condensation Risk Control – The roofing system moves the dew point to the outside of the roof structure, ensuring there is no condensation build up in the ceiling cavity. No condensation means a healthier building and living/working environment.

* No need for roof cavity ventilation due to the fact that there’s no condensation formed within the roof space. This negates the need for mechanical ventilation or roof ventilation penetrations through the membrane making the system more watertight.

* Energy cost savings are maximized with less need for heating or cooling throughout the building. The system pays for itself over time.

* Creates more space within the ceiling for services.

* It’s a light-weight system that’s wind load resistant and strong, but flexible enough to resist seismic movement.
