Wall Insulation

Exterior wall insulation improves thermal performance, reduces thermal bridging, and enhances moisture control in modern wall assemblies when paired with a continuous air barrier system.

Exterior insulation forms a continuous thermal layer on the outside of the wall assembly, significantly reducing heat loss and limiting thermal bridging through framing. When combined with an air barrier such as SOPRASEAL STICK VP, the system improves airtightness, stabilises indoor temperatures, and supports compliance with H1 Energy Efficiency requirements.

Equus offers two primary insulation options for exterior wall applications: SOPRAROCK M mineral wool and rigid PIR insulation. SOPRAROCK M is a stone wool board designed specifically for exterior wall systems, providing thermal resistance, fire performance, dimensional stability, and acoustic benefits. PIR insulation is a lightweight, high-R-value alternative where thinner, more cost-effective wall build-ups are required.

Both options contribute to moisture management by positioning the insulation outside the structure, reducing the risk of condensation within the wall cavity and adding a protective layer to the overall building envelope.

Additional Information

Why Choose Insulation in the Exterior Wall Assembly?

Exterior insulation reduces condensation risk, minimises thermal bridging, and increases overall airtightness. It provides design flexibility, improves long-term energy performance, and contributes to H1 Energy Efficiency compliance. Placement on the exterior also protects the primary structure from temperature fluctuations and weather exposure.

Why Choose Mineral Wool?

Mineral wool is non-combustible, providing excellent fire resistance, sound absorption, and reliable thermal performance. It is moisture-resistant, rot-proof, and resistant to pests and mould. SOPRAROCK M is produced from basalt-based stone wool, offering durable, stable long-term performance and an environmentally responsible insulation choice.

Why Choose PIR?

PIR provides high thermal performance in a thinner board, making it ideal where wall build-up depth needs to be minimised. It is lightweight, moisture-resistant, and maintains stable long-term R-values, helping meet H1 requirements with a compact exterior insulation layer.
